Truman the Tiger is a special Green Ribbon Champion. As a big fan of those who choose to give hope and share life by registering as organ donors, he is showing his team spirit by wearing the Green Ribbon pin at MU sporting events, civic and university functions, hospitals, schools, and many other appearances in Columbia and statewide.

Nearly 2,000 people in Missouri and in Kansas are waiting for lifesaving organ transplants. Truman encourages his many followers, friends and fans to “be an MVP” and join the organ, eye and tissue donor registry during National Donate Life Month in April.

Midwest Transplant Network (MTN) has a regional office in Columbia and a very successful partnership with MU Health Care, the University of Missouri’s academic health center. In fact, MU Health Care received MTN’s 2018 Donate Life Award from the Missouri Hospital Association to celebrate a record year with 36 organ donors at the University Hospital in Columbia, the most in the region. Additionally, MTN is actively engaged in college campus outreach programs, working with Student Organ Donor Advocates groups and colleges throughout Kansas and western Missouri.

Twice honored as the nation’s best mascot, Truman the Tiger was named through a campus contest, in recognition of Missouri native President Harry S. Truman. He has helped Mizzou teams roar to victory since he was given his current look and identity in the mid-1980s. Next up: giving 110% to the Green Ribbon Campaign and supporting the awareness efforts for more registered organ, eye and tissue donors!
